Getting started

  1. Open Castlivo and tap + (or Add a source).
  2. Choose M3U link, M3U file, Stream or Xtream and enter the details from your provider.
  3. Open the source and tap a channel. The Stream Inspector panel appears under the picture.

No provider yet? Tap Add Castlivo test streams on the Library screen. They are test patterns we made (colour bars, a frame counter and a motion sweep), each in three qualities.

Frequently asked questions

Does Castlivo include channels?

No. Castlivo is a player only. It does not provide, sell or recommend channels or other content. Use playlists and streams you are allowed to watch.

What do the Inspector numbers mean?

Resolution: picture size being shown. Variant: the bitrate of the quality currently playing. Throughput: how fast your connection downloads the stream. Startup: time from tapping to the first picture. Stalls: times playback stopped to wait for data. Dropped: video frames that could not be shown in time. Buffer: seconds already downloaded ahead. Switches: automatic quality changes.

How is the smoothness score calculated?

Every session starts at 100. Points are taken away for a startup slower than one second, for stalls per minute watched and for many dropped frames. It is a quick way to compare sessions of the same stream; it is not a measure of picture quality.

How does Quality Lock work?

HLS streams can offer several qualities. Tap one under Quality lock and Castlivo keeps the stream at or below it, and applies the same choice next time you open that stream. Tap Auto to return to adaptive quality. Streams with a single quality show nothing to lock.

Why can't I step frames on a live channel?

Frame stepping only works on videos that support it, typically on-demand files. Live streams usually do not. Frame Grab itself works on any stream once the picture is visible.

A live channel from my Xtream account doesn't play

iPhone plays live channels in HLS (.m3u8), and Castlivo always requests HLS from your server. If your provider only offers MPEG-TS output, ask them to enable m3u8. The session timeline in the player shows the error message returned by the server.

Where is my Xtream password stored?

In the iOS Keychain on your iPhone, and it is sent only to the server you entered. Deleting the source deletes the password.

Does sound keep playing when I leave the app?

Yes, with Lock Screen controls, unless you turn off Keep sound playing in background in Settings. Picture in Picture keeps the video playing too. AirPlay is in the player controls.

How do I delete my data?

Settings › Erase all data removes sources, passwords, favorites, quality locks and sessions. Deleting the app removes everything as well.

Is Castlivo available on iPad?

Castlivo is designed for iPhone. It runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode.
